A PALATABLE JOURNEY AT VAGABONDS

May 29, 2016

Southerner's Soup, Saigon Salad, Yamite Salad, Chicken Wings, and Iced tea

Let your tastebuds go on a delectable adventure around the world through the comforting dishes of Vagabonds! It’s all about layers and layers of melted cheese, crunchy bacon, homey flavors, and the sweetest desserts. Sink your teeth into international dishes with a dash of your favorite Filipino flavors. Go on a palatable journey with me!

Quatro Formaggi & Garlic Dip and East Coast Dip

East Coast Dip [₱180.00] and Quatro Formaggi & Garlic Dip [₱150.00]

The East Coast Dip combines the beautiful flavors of shrimp and cream cheese while the Quatro Formaggi Dip combines 4 different types of cheese with garlic. As a cheese lover, I especially loved the intense flavor of the Quatro Formaggi dip (because 1 type of cheese is never enough) with a kick of garlic. The East Coast Dip is perfect for those who prefer a more mild flavor.

Southerner's Soup

Southerner’s Soup [₱150.00]

Right off the bat, I knew this was filled with bacon! It literally tasted like a cheeseburger—It was so good. This soup is made out of bacon, leeks, and potatoes. It’s the perfect soup to have on those gloomy rainy days.

Southerner's Soup, Saigon Salad, Yamite Salad, Chicken Wings, and Iced tea

Yamite Salad [₱220.00] & Saigon Salad [₱180.00]

Yes, healthy food can also be comfort food. The Yamite Salad has mixed greens and chicken topped with a delicate balsamic vinaigrette and crunchy wonton chips. The Saigon Salad is actually a deconstructed Vietnamese spring roll. I especially liked the asian flavors of the Yamite Salad and the fresh taste of the Saigon Salad.

Belgian Wanderer Wings, Shogun Wings, Yao Wings, and Tagalog's Best Wings

Belgian Wanderer Wings, Shogun Wings, Yao Wings & Tagalog’s Best Wings [₱220.00]

The Belgian Wanderer Wings are coated with a chocolate paprika marinade and topped with chilli flakes and served with Pimiento aioli. The Shogun Wings are Japanese style wings tossed in wasabi powder and served with White Chocolate Ranch dip. The Yao Wings are their classic chicken wings with a dash of orange flavor and served with Soy Ranch dip. My personal favorite, the Tagalog’s Best Wings are marinated in bagoong and served with Peanut Butter Aioli dip. I love the unique combination of flavors. I know they sound a bit weird, but they all tasted pretty amazing. If you can, try all of them. If they had a wings sampler platter, I would order it every single time.

Monticello Mac & Cheese, Bleu Cheese Mac & Cheese, Classic Carbonara, and Mediterranean Pasta

Monticello Mac & Cheese [₱250.00], Bleu Cheese Mac & Cheese [₱280.00], Classic Carbonara [₱270.00], and Mediterranean Pasta [₱300.00]

Pasta time! This is definitely the best way to carboload. Out of all the pasta dishes, I especially loved the Bleu Cheese Mac & Cheese. The Bleu Cheese flavor did not overwhelm the dish and it was also topped with a balsamic honey reduction. It tasted even better when I added bacon bits on top. For the bacon lovers (like me), the Monticello Mac & Cheese is the best dish for you.

Gazebo PB & J Burger, Boracay Chori Burger, Marshall's Cheese Burger, and Las Vegas Breakfast Burger

Gazebo PB&J Burger [₱280.00], Boracay Chori Burger [₱280.00], Marshall’s Cheese Burger [₱250.00], and Las Vegas Breakfast Burger [₱280.00]

Out of all the unique burger flavors, I especially liked the Las Vegas Breakfast Burger. The longganisa patty topped with the sunny side up egg with a runny yolk is an awesome hangover cure. For the adventurous eater, the Gazebo PB&J Burger will leave you pleasantly surprised. I am not a fan of peanut butter at all but I actually liked the sweet and savory taste of this burger.

Monticello Mac & Cheese, Meatball Corleone, Classic Carbonara, and Chelsea's Fish & Chips

Meatball Corleone [₱250.00] and Chelsea’s Fish & Chips [₱250.00]

The Meatball Corleone is their delicious take on the classic Italian dish—spaghetti and meatballs. As for the fish & chips, I especially love how the fish fillet is crunchy on the outside but moist on the inside. These are classic dishes cooked well!

Howdy Fried Chicken, John Wayne's Pork Chops, Ibiza Chicken with Chorizo Pilaff, and Salted Caramel Milkshake

John Wayne’s Pork Chops [₱280.00], Howdy Fried Chicken [₱220.00], and Ibiza Chicken with Chorizo Pilaff [₱280.00]

Out of these entrées, I kept going back to the Howdy Fried Chicken. The buttermilk crust and southern style rice tastes so good together.

Howdy Fried Chicken, John Wayne's Pork Chops, Ibiza Chicken with Chorizo Pilaff, Steak & Eggs, Southern American Steak, and Tokyo Beef

Steak & Eggs, Southern American Steak, and Tokyo Beef

Steak cooked to perfection is one of my favorite dishes of all time. Vagabonds offers a variety of steak dishes. All of their steak dishes are seasoned well and cooked perfectly. I especially liked the Tokyo Beef dish.

Wonka's Delight, Neon Cheesecake, Scout Treats, Toronto Cheesecake, Strawberry Cheesecake

Wonka’s Delight, Neon Cheesecake, Scout Treats, Toronto Cheesecake, and Strawberry Cheesecake [₱150.00]

Now unto the best part of every meal—dessert! I love how the dessert comes in these cutsie little cups of sweet goodness. Out of all the desserts, I especially loved the Scout Treats and Toronto Cheesecake. Scout Treats is basically S’mores turned into a mousse and topped with blow-torched marshmallows. The Toronto Cheesecake is a maple bacon cheesecake mousse topped with (you guessed it) more bacon.

Smores Milkshake, Cookies & Cream Milkshake, Salted Caramel Milkshake, and Strawberry Milkshake

S’mores Milkshake, Cookies & Cream Milkshake, Salted Caramel Milkshake, and Strawberry Milkshake [₱150.00]

Now unto the 2nd best part of the meal—2nd dessert! If you’re a sweet tooth (like me), you will definitely fall in love with these dessert inspired milkshakes. I highly recommend the S’mores Milkshake and the Salted Caramel Milkshake. Experience sweet happiness in every sip!

I love Vagabonds‘ whole idea of taking comfort food from all over the world and making it their own. All the food I tried was cooked right and plated beautifully. Not to mention, the big serving of food for the affordable price. I mean, ₱250.00 for Mac & Cheese that could feed 2 people is definitely reasonable in my book. Don’t you think? There are a few over seasoning issues though, like some dishes were too sweet or too salty, but the overall experience was pretty awesome. I will definitely go back to Vagabonds especially when I’m craving all sorts of comfort food.
