Every once in a while, there’s nothing like kicking off those heels and putting on a pair of comfy sneakers. There’s just something so comforting and, in a way, necessary about taking that much needed break from everything. We all live such fast-paced lives that we tend to forget about the beauty of taking a step back.
I used to be one of those people who focused more on work than anything else in this world. I was too focused on my career to notice that my health, relationships, and everything else were slowly dwindling. The moment I realized what was happening, I snapped myself back to reality. It was only then that I realized the downside of what I was doing to my life. I’ve been trying to find my way back to a work-life balance every since.
The harder I tried to balance everything out, the more stressed out I became. I finally realized that the best way for me to manage everything is to follow a schedule and to take regular breaks. I manage my own schedule so I try to diversify my daily activities and I really try to stick to my schedule for the day. I also include vacation days in my schedule because rejuvenating the mind and the body does wonders.
At the start of the year, I told myself that I would go on more vacations and really explore the beautiful sites that the Philippines has to offer. So far, I have managed to go on vacations once a month. It’s honestly the best decision I’ve ever made because it has transformed me into a more calm and inspired person. I highly suggest to go on, at least, one out of town trip per month. Don’t wait for yourself to end up burned out and unhappy. Actively try out new things and allow yourself to explore whatever you want.
This strategy has been working out for me. I noticed I’m even more productive than I was before despite taking more breaks and vacation days. It may have something to do with the state of my mind. The more I allowed it to breathe, the better it functioned. Going off duty does have its perks—just don’t overdo it.
