Ombre clothes are interesting pieces to own. A ton of stores sell ombre merchandise, but why buy these items if you can just make them yourself? Trust me, it’s not rocket science – anyone can do it. Plus, you can customize it and make it look even better than the ones sold in stores. I created this super simple tutorial so anyone else can do the same – enjoy!

Step 1: Prepare your work space and gather your materials

Things you’ll need…

Denim pants/shorts

Bleach

Water

Distilled White Vinegar

Bucket/ Tub/ Sink

Rubber Gloves

*If you start out with jeans, cut them to your desired length (like what I did to these pairs of jeans). Don’t worry about making it too perfect because after it goes through the washing machine, the ends will end up fraying (so the uneven edges will not be seen anymore).

Step 2: Mix bleach solution (½ bleach, ½ water) in the bucket and submerge the pair of shorts (any way you want)

Leave an allowance of 2 inches because the bleach will run up from where it is being soaked (I learned this the hard way). Let it soak for 10-15 minutes.

*leaving the shorts in the bleach solution for too long will destroy the denim

DON’T FORGET TO WEAR RUBBER GLOVES! bleach can stain clothes and burn the skin – protect yourself.

Step 3: Transfer the shorts to the vinegar solution (water + a little white vinegar) to stop the bleaching process then rinse well with cold water

Step 4: Hang it to dry then toss it in the wash

Once dry, toss the shorts in the washing machine – ON ITS OWN. Do not wash it with other clothes because the bleach will stain the rest of the clothes in the wash. After washing the shorts on its own, it can be washed with other clothes.

Voila! that’s how to create your very own ombre cut-offs! Well, that’s it for this post. I would love to see how your DIY ombre cut-offs turn out, send me pictures!

xoxo.
